County Settles Bobcat Fire Claims Against Southern California Edison (SCE); County Received Over $80 Million from SCE Pursuant to the Settlement

County Counsel, along with outside counsel, negotiated a settlement with Southern California Edison (SCE) that resolves the County’s claims against SCE for damages the Flood Control District, Fire District, and County incurred from the Bobcat Fire.  The Bobcat Fire is the second largest in County history. The fire started on September 6, 2020, near the Cogswell Dam, which is operated by the County Flood Control District, in the San Gabriel Mountains within the Angeles National Forest. The Bobcat Fire burned 115,796 acres, destroyed over 85 homes, and devastated wildlife and natural areas.  The County received over $80 million from SCE.
