County Counsel offers attorneys competitive salaries, increasing responsibility over work assignments and matters, and encourages open and frequent interaction and dialogue with our clients. Attorneys work hand-in-hand with clients, and this often takes them out into the field to better understand “on the ground” impacts of legal issues. Some of the “meeting” locations include the Hollywood Bowl, Ford Amphitheatre, Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, water distribution facilities, landfills, Santa Monica mountains vocational centers, Dependency court, mental health courts and County jails, amongst many others.

County?
01
Attorneys at the County Counsel’s office enjoy great responsibility in that they play the general counsel role to a vibrant and engaged client and are key partners in carrying out the Board of Supervisor’s policy goals. Few public law firms rival the breadth and diversity of work the Office of the County Counsel handles on a daily basis. The Office handles matters ranging from: land use, zoning, environmental issues, employment, health care, probate, conservatorships, litigation, appeals, legislation, elections, construction, water, tax, criminal justice, child welfare, worker’s compensation, contracts, and the list goes on. Our attorneys have had the opportunity to work on the forefront of cutting edge social, political and legal issues such as bail reform, immigration, marijuana, homelessness and health care reform.

Each summer, the Office of County Counsel offers law students from across the Country the opportunity to learn and experience working in one of the most prestigious government law organizations in the nation.
Selected interns may participate in the program remotely or in person. Each of the Office’s eighteen Divisions focused on distinct areas of law hosts and mentors one or more law students to participate in the program. Program participants can work side-by-side with attorneys in each Division and gain experience working and receiving feedback in the chosen area of law. Other invaluable learning opportunities include attending commission and client meetings, participating in court-hearings, and taking depositions as State-Bar Certified interns. To further the knowledge and exposure to public service, program participants are invited to attend weekly presentations given by different County Counsel attorneys, judges, and County department representatives. The program also includes unique and in-person tours of various County facilities such as the Los Angeles Music Center, the Natural History Museum, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
